Again, I am not a boffin. I am just some schmuck on the Internet. If you know better, please send some corrections.
An update to my last Glaciers In The Sahara post - turns out that "the world’s glaciers could lose as much as 40% of their mass by 2100 with 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming". All you have to do is to multiply the results we got by 0.4
.
And now, what about evaporation?
Let us say that because of evaporation, you would have to continuously pump water into the Sahara Sea.
A certain evaporation rate calculator says it will be about 2.9e+9 litre / second
for the following values:
10000000 km^2
.20 km/hour
.30 degrees C
.70%
.2.9e+9 litre / second
.We calculate how much it would cost per year:
units --terse --digits 2 '( (2.9e+9 (litre / second)) * (0.01 unitedstatesdollar / litre) )' 'unitedstatesdollar / year'result: 9.2e+14
That is quite a lot of dollars.
We do the same for New Israeli Shekels:
units --terse --digits 2 '( (2.9e+9 (litre / second)) * (0.01 unitedstatesdollar / litre) )' 'israelnewshekel / year'result: 3.3e+15
That is lots and lots of New Israeli Shekels to pour into the Sahara Sea.
